Dealing With Depression – My Story

Two years ago I had a serious battle with depression. I felt as if I had no purpose. I dealt with this deep secret alone and I fought with telling the truth. I feared people would judge me, laugh at me and think I was weak. But the truth is… I was not alone. Over 14.8 million adults and about 6.7 percent of the U.S. population (age 18 and older) suffer from depression. I had no idea! During my depression an idea came to me about shooting my first documentary. This God-sent idea ended up changing my life and opened my heart to understanding my purpose in life. I decided to talk about my dealing with depression in hopes that you (or someone else) could relate. I wanted to share my truth, so that you can see that life gets better if you take the first step.

Brother, thank you for sharing your story. It is so important to be open with ourselves and others about what we are feeling. Our emotions are such wonderful indicators of where we are in relation to where we could be – completely whole in ourselves. I am also a survivor. I’ve been through the suicidal thoughts, the plans, the hospitalizations, the self-harming. It definitely gets better. Some days are painful and progress can be slow, but there is always hope. If you can’t feel it, let someone else feel it for you. I love you, I believe in you, I pray for you. None of you are alone – ever. ❤️
