Noche de San Juan (St John’s Night) is a celebration that takes place on the night of June 23. Family and friends gather on beaches all around the island to celebrate the birth of Saint John the Baptist. At the stroke of midnight, those gathered at the beach will walk backwards into the sea to immerse themselves in the water. This tradition symbolizes the regeneration through which we are reborn spiritually by means of the external cleansing. Tradition also says that you will have ‘good luck’ for the rest of the year.
Since I moved to Puerto Rico recently, I decided (last minute) to go to the beach and check it out. Normally, I carry with my camera, but this time I left it home… and somehow I ended up in the water with all the locals and tourists! But I guess that’s what LIFE is about right!? Living in the moment.
